The Giver: Blog Post 1

Prompt: Do you think twelve-year olds are ready to choose their careers? In what ways are twelve-year-olds in our society tracked into their future careers? What Life Assignment would you like if you had to choose right now? Why?

Careers usually start after/ during college, but sometimes if your good enough, you can get a career fast and easy. If you do decide to go to college and your grades get kept at a good level, then you 'll have a better chance of getting a better career. However, trying to choose what you want when your at a young age like 12, then its probably not going to be that career move. In the book, " The Giver "
when the children are 12 years old they have to go to what is called, "The Ceremony of 12"
and the children that were 11 turn 12 all at the same time. They what is called an Assignment, a fancy way of saying getting a job, and they have to work with that their whole life until the get released, get kicked out of the town, by the Elders. I don't think that 12 year-olds should be giving/chosen an occupation at that age. This book is almost the same the same as how the 12-year-olds in our society track down their future because we choose our occupations.

Let's say that you went to college to get a degree for being a Lawyer. Getting a degree on that specific occupation can really help you get a better chance of getting a better spot in that field. The Life Assignment that I would choose is a Police Officer. I chose this Assignment because I want to help protect against crime and help protect people. Therefore, I think you should be a certain age to get your occupation. And twelve is NOT the age. =)
